Information Blackout
Although this was initially a one week project, it has turned into a 3 month one. Here are the rules:
No TV, No Movies, No Radio, No Newspapers, No Videogames. Limited facebook (Messenger is allowed).
This experiment started from the idea of external influences and the process and logical progression of our thoughts. If many people have the same types of mental input then they will tendencially have the same types of output. There are many ways to break this cycle but for me something that resonated was the idea of breaking away from some of my habitual habits and forming new ones that help me to direct and propel my life in a clearer way towards a life direction that I am proud of.
Another one of the ideas that brought me to this path was my dislike of second hand regurgitated experiences. I'm trying to direct more first hand experiences into my life and make people more a part of it and have less places where I retreat and do something on my own. One of the things I often notice about Movies is the degree of meta-communication that is present in them and how much this influences us as individuals and as a culture to follow certain thought and behavior patterns.
I'm committed to living on my own terms and embracing myself and others through paths of thought processes that stem from my intellectual and emotional needs and desires and not those of external forces being projected onto and through me.
I've currently finished month number 2 and am progressing towards month number 3. I feel more free and the time I've freed up by doing this is mostly dedicated to listening to inspirational and personal development material and developing business ideas I've had on the back burner for quite a while now.
Sometimes I miss movies and often I miss Videogames. Newspapers and the Radio I don't miss- It seems everything that is important to my world my friends seem to tell me about. I also have tended to read a lot.
At some point in the future I will redo this experiement for 3 months or a year and do away with Novels as well.
