Exit through the Gift Shop - 9/10
The camera gets turned on the cameraman.
The story of Thierry Guetta's unknowing plomp into the Art world.
One man, one camera and very little notion is what is going on or what will come of things but unbridled enthusiasm and a desire to do something, anything.
Reality vs. the perception of reality. What is value and is all value ficticious ? Why can't I do this these are some of the questions addressed in this documentary.
The battle for Algiers 6/10
A film about the events between 1954 and 1957 leading to skirmishes between French occupation forces and Algerian nationalist partisans. The tactics and countertactics of Urban Guerilla warfare - winning the battle and loosing the war.
Very neutral depiction of the atrocities commited by both sides in the events leading up to Algerian independence. Guerilla tactics in an Urban setting, terrorism networks and the innocent people killed by both sides in the middle of all of this. Very neutral style in its depiction not emphasizing either the Algerian or the French side.
This film did not resonate with me, possibly interesting for military people or as a study of urban warfare.
